Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社) is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates (鳥居), which is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found within a Shinto Shrine that is symbolically marks the transition from the profane to the sacred.

Before we entered into the several thousands of torii gates, we shall visit the Shinto temple inside the Fushimi Inari. It is very common to see the colour of Orange in most of the shrine and temples as it symbolise the colour of Japan.

There is a saying that washing hands and drinking water here in the temple will bring some ritual cleansing.

Numerous fox statues can be found within Fushimi Inari Shrine that symbolise the “God of Rice”.

Thousands of torii gates can lead to the top along the hiking trail.

The torii gates along the entire trail are donated by individuals and companies that could cost more than a million yen for a large gate. The name of donator and the date of the donation will be inscribed on the back of each gate.

There are also multiple of smaller shrines with stacks of miniature torii gates that donated by visitors with smaller budgets that cost around ¥400,000 (SGD$5,025.13).

Having some own selfie time!

Near the entrance, there are one whole stretch of cobbled side street lined with restaurants, souvenir shops and food stalls.

I got myself a plate of Takoyaki which cost ¥300 (SGD$3.76) for 7 balls.

After the food street.
